Bulbous Joint / Excess Fillet /Excess Solder on Fillet
Excessive fillet = bulbous appearance of joint where outlines of the leads are obscured by the quantity of solder on them.
A solder joint on chip components that is over the height of the part with a convex meniscus is referred to as bulbous or excess fillet. It is caused during separation of the board from the solder wave and is more common in nitrogen soldering.
Possible Causes:
1.Conditions which have caused too much paste to
be deposited on the pad of the joints with
excessive solder on them
2.Stencil thickness
3.Squeegee pressure
4.Snap-Off
5.Bleed out
6.Aperture Size/Design
Remedy:Reduce the amount of paste printed on the affected areas
